The College Board recently announced the names of five Dos Pueblos High School students who have been named 2009-10 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) Scholars. We are honored to tell you that John Douglas, Philip Gil, Christopher McAmis, Miranda Rodriguez, and Amanda Wells have received this recognition.

The NHRP was initiated in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. This year, The NHRP is recognizing nearly 5,000 students selected from a pool of over 200,000 students who took the 2008 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA and identified themselves as Hispanic/Latino. Students recognized by the NHRP are at least one-quarter Hispanic/Latino and have achieved a minimum PSAT/NMSQT/PAA score for their region. Studnets with GPAs of 3.5 or higher are designated as Scholars, and those with GPAs of 3.0 to 3.49 as Honorable Mentions.

Although the College Board is not able to provide monetary awards, they consider it a privilege to recognize such outstanding students. Another important component of the NHRP is that the list of recognized students is distributed to subscribing four-year postsecondary institutions in October. This gives the students an opportunity to hear from colleges that are particularly interested in communicating with academically outstanding students of Hispanic/Latino heritage.

The faculty, staff, and administration of Dos Pueblos High School congratulate these five fine young scholars.
